Real-life couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor won the Best Actress and Best Actor titles this year at the coveted Filmfare Awards 2019, that took place last week. Alia Bhatt won the award for her jaw-dropping performance in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi. But Deepika’s die-hard fans are in no mood to buy this news. On a fan page, a user quipped that Deepika Padukone should have won the Best Actress award or at least she should have shared the award with Raazi actress Alia Bhatt.

The user also argued that why Filmfare body let Ayushmann Khurrana and Ranveer Singh share the award while letting Alia take the trophy alone.

Noticing the post, Deepika Padukone apologised to her fans by commenting on it. She wrote, “To all my Fans, I am sorry I let you all down and promise to work harder than ever before..#upwards&onwards."

On Monday, Deepika Padukone shared the first look from her upcoming film Chhapaak. In the film she is essaying the role of an acid attack victim Malti. The film is inspired by real life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

In an interview, Deepika revealed that she was planning to turn down the project but after reading the script, she knew that Chhapaak is the film for her.

"Meghna [Gulzar, the director] walked into the office and took me through the story. In five minutes of speaking with her, I knew in my heart that this is what I wanted to do next. Something about Meghna herself, Laxmi's story and Meghna's conviction in this film... It was very similar to Piku. In just five minutes of meeting the director, I knew that this is the film I wanted to do,” Deepika said.

Deepika Padukone is being lauded by the film industry and her fans for making a brave choice in her career. Fans are also praising the first look of Chhapaak which shows DP with a face scarred by acid attack. The film directed by Meghna Gulzar, will release in 2020.
