Amazon India has started a campaign where they ask people, what problems they face when they come to new society. To give a celebrity push Swara Bhasker also tweeted and wrote “When I made the big move to a new city, all I wanted was a swanky music system, music being my passion! No matter how much I hunted for it, couldn’t find anything of my choice. In fact, I only got confused! #AjnabiShaharKiGoogly #ChonkpurCheetahs @amazonIN”.
Amazon India had to pull down their tweet ‘Ajnabi Shahar Ki Googly’ campaign after people started to uninstall the app and gave negative marking on Playstore.
Members of the social media even went as far as starting the hashtag #BoycottAmazon, slamming the company for “siding with” an actor who maligned and hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. Tweeple demanded Amazon should not associate with Bhaskar and must be removed from brand endorsements or else they would uninstall and boycott the tech giant’s app and services.
People downrated Amazon on Google Playstore, cancelled their subscription to Amazon Prime, and are even cancelling the orders that have already been dispatched.
Swara Bhaskar is not the only Bollywood celeb who has protested the India's rape culture, and yet she is the activist who must bear the brunt of being a desi woman with critical opinions.
Swara Bhaskar, star of films Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Nil Battey Sannata, will be seen next in Veere Di Wedding, co-starring Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
