Alka Yagnik is one of the most iconic Bollywood playback singers. Though she has an illustrious singing career spanning over three decades, she completely owned the era of 90s. Alka is a seven-time Filmfare Award winner and a two-time recipient of the renowned National Film Awards. She has also been nominated for a record of 35 times for Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Alka's mother Shubha Yagnik was a classical singer and wanted her daughter to be a singer. At the age of 6, Alka started singing for Akashvani (All India Radio), Calcutta. When she was 10, her mother brought her to Bombay to become a child singer. After much efforts, impressed Raj Kapoor sent her to music director Laxmikant, who gave her two alternatives- to begin her career immediately as a dubbing artist or to get a break later as a playback singer. They opted for the latter.

However, the song that turned her into a star overnight was Ek Do Teen from Tezaab(1988). She collaborated with many composers, from Laxmikant Pyarelal to AR Rahman.
