Veteran singer Asha Bhosle will be honoured with West Bengal's highest civilian award Banga Bibhushan along with Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and Justice (retd) Shyamal Kumar Sen among others.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted "Today, the #Bengal Govt will confer the Banga Bibhushan and Banga Bhushan awards to celebrated achievers including @ashabhosle Ji @prosenjitbumba and Shyamal Kumar Sen."
Asha Bhosle also shared the news on her micro-blogging site Twitter. She expressed her gratitude to the West Bengal Government for honouring her with the award. She wrote, ''My sincere thanks to the West Bengal Government for bestowing their highest civilian award on me. I shall receive the same in person in Kolkata on 21st May ‘18''
According to a senior official of the state government, writer Samaresh Majumdar will also be conferred with the Banga Bibhusan, while footballer Subrata Bhattacharya will get Banga Bhushan.
After coming to power in 2011, Banerjee had instituted the Banga Bibhushan and Banga Bhushan awards in recognition of the services of eminent personalities from their respective fields. "The #Bengal Govt instituted these awards in 2011," she tweeted.
