Putting all speculations to rest after he was found missing from polling booth in Mumbai, Akshay Kumar has admitted holding Canadian citizenship. In a statement on Twitter, he said, "I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India".
Akshay Kumar, who wears his patriotism on his sleeve, said that he serves his nation, which is India. Akshay Kumar courted controversy after dodging a question about whether or not he voted in the Lok Sabha elections.
"It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India," he wrote.
"While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others," Kumar said.
"Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger," he added.
He went on to say that he always intended to make India a better and stronger place. Akshay Kumar called the allegations on his citizenship as unwarranted and said that he does not need to prove his love for the nation. He confessed that he pays tax here, work here and does his efforts to make India strong.
When fans saw Twinkle Khanna walking alone at the polling booth during the fourth phase of Mumbai Lok Sabha elections 2019, they targeted Akshay Kumar for his absence. Akshay Kumar was criticized for not being present at the polling booth. Akshay chose not to answer the same. He was seen saying, "Chaliye Beta," and walked off from the location.
In fact, Akshay Kumar was tagged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage people to vote. To which he replied, ""true hallmark of a democracy lies in people’s participation in the electoral process. Voting has to be a superhit prem katha between our nation and its voters." He was recently seen in a one to one interaction with PM Modi on totally unpolitical grounds.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar was last seen in Kesari and the movie did great at the box office. He will be next seen in Good News alongside Kareena Kapoor.
