Ajay Devgn opens up on Lata Mangeshkar being upset with Total Dhamaal's Mungda song

Rehashed versions of old Bollywood songs are in trend now. Makers are cashing in on this fad by including recreated songs in their film. This not only gives them a feet-tapping number in their jukebox but also helps them in film's promotion. Total Dhamaal, which released last Friday has two reprised songs- Paisa Yeh Paisa from Karz and Mungda from 1978 film Inkaar.

It was reported that the recreation of Mungda song has upset original makers including Mangeshkar sisters. The original song was crooned by Usha Mangeshkar whereas lyrics were by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music by Rajesh Roshan. A Deccan Chronicle report mentions that Mangeshkar sisters are upset that no one seeks their consent before using their songs. She is also unhappy with the way their songs are being ripped off. On the other hand, Rajesh Roshan feels that the current lot of filmmakers have lost confidence in creating fresh songs.

Directed Indra Kumar has already opened up on the controversy and now actor Ajay Devgn has also spoken his heart out on the issue. In an interview with a daily, Devgn said that Lata Mangeshkar is very senior to them and if she has felt bad that she can slap them. "Lataji is very senior. I think a lot of people recreate songs and they don’t think like this. So, if she has gotten upset about it, she can come and slap us also. She has got all the rights to do so. I mean, it’s a fact, she can shout at us also. We’re ready to apologise if she has felt bad about something,'' he said.

Earlier, director Indra Kumar has told Mid-Day that they don't need anyone's consent. He also said that they aren't attempting to match up to the popularity and brilliance of original songs. He said, ''We don’t have to take their consent. When Neend Churayi Meri was remade (for Golmaal Again; the original song was from Kumar’s Ishq), no one came to me for approval. The rights belong to the music label, and they (owners of the label) have the right to do what they want to''.
