Mumbai, Apr 12 : Yash Raj Films (YRF) has sent legal notices to the International Cricket Council (ICC), BCCI and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for playing their songs at World Cup matches without their permission.
The notices have been sent by Novex Communication, the production house's authorised agency which issues licenses for use of film songs and promos at public events.
The notices have been sent for infringement of copyright.
Chetan Maniar, Vice President of Novex said the agency has also registered a police complaint seeking action against those involved. He said the songs were played at all the matches despite being told to procure licenses for doing so.
Cricket officials, however, could not be reached immediately for comment on the issue. When contacted, MCA sources said the Association had secured several clearances from the police and performing rights.
“We have taken clearances from the police and performing rights as well. We have spent around 13-14 lakhs for getting these clearances,” they said.It was the ICC which directly engaged the performers, sources said.
Yesterday, Marine Drive police officials had visited the MCA office here seeking explanation for the notices, they added. PTI
