Nargis portrays and ideal Indian woman, who in the ends kills her own child to set a good example amid the villagers.Movie: Mughal-e-AzamLead: MadhubalaThe movie is based on an imaginary character of a court dancer 'Anarkali' (played by Madhubala), who falls in love with the future mughal emperor of India 'Salim' or Prince Jehangir. She beautifully showcased selfless love for him and despite the angst of Mughal Emperor Akbar. In the end for confessing his love for him in public, Anarkali is ordered to be entombed alive. Movie: Umrao JaanLead: RekhaThe story is about a little girl 'Amiran' (played by Rekha), who gets abducted and sold of at a brothel to be a courtesans. Unaware of the atrocities the women have to face once they get there, Amiran makes friends with everyone around and accepting it as her fate starts to live there and becomes a poet.In the end she is left alone, as her brothel gets deserted after Britishers attack the city.Movie: AndhiLead: Suchitra SenA political drama loosely based on the life of then PM Indira Gandhi. Aarti (played by Suchitra Sen), a politician lives separately from her husband (Sanjeev Kumar). After 22 years, during one of her election campaign Arti and her husband's paths are crossed. But as nobody is aware of their marital relation, she decides to not step forward as this could jeopardize her political career. The journey unfolds how the men in the society look up to her as symbol of sex and she is asked to play just that, refusing to do, she ends up with a destroyed career and how despite of such wealth she dies alone & lonely.Movie: KahaaniLead: Vidya BalanThe movie is about a wife Vidya Bagchi (played by Vidya Balan) who is on a secret mission to find and kill the person behind her husband's death.She single-handedly held the audience with her amazing portrayal of a pregnant women fighting to find the killers.Movie: English VinglishLead: SrideviShashi (played by Sridevi) is an ideal Indian mother who loves her family and gives her entire life to them only to be to be insulted and making fun by own daughter and husband over her poor understanding of English language.A woman unaware of what life holds for her leaves for US and starts a journey to learn English and give answers to all those who believe that a woman who doesn't know the language must face insult.Movie: Gulaab GangLead: Madhuri Dixit, Juhi ChawlaThe movie is loosely based on Gulabi Gang, who fights against abusive men who mistreat their wives. Gulab Gang leader (played by Madhuri) stands up for those women and empowering them to fight for themselves. She comes face-to-face with Juhi (who plays a politician) who believes power is the key to fight against anyone.
