Mumbai: Bollywood actor Vishal Thakkar has been booked for allegedly raping a television actress, police said on Monday.
A case was registered against him under relevant sections of rape and other offences on Sunday, Charkop police station's senior inspector Ramchandra Gaekwad told media.
The victim, an actress who has worked in several TV serials, in her complaint has alleged that the accused raped her in his own house.
According to her, Vishal and she were in a live-in relationship from the last six months. He made physical relationship with her on the promise of marrying but later backed out.
While talking to us, the victim said, “Vishal raped for many years on pretext of marriage. Whenever I used to oppose his actions he used to beat me up. I am not filing this complaint for publicity. I just want justice. Neither do I have shortage of work nor did I demand money.”
An FIR has been registered against the actor under IPC sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 323, 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Senior inspector Ramchandra Gaekwad said, “Problems between the two started due to doubts in their relationship. Vishal disliked that the victim met anyone which is why he started harassing and beating her.”
He also added that the complaint has been registered with FIR number 367/2015.
The actor has not yet been arrested. When the Police team investigating the matter landed up at his place, the actor was found to be absconding from the scene.
Thakkar has done small roles in movies like Tango Charlie and Chandni Bar. He was also spotted in the famous comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma.
