Born on December 11, 1922 in Peshawar, Yusuf Khan (his real name) entered Bollywood in the Forties to become the Tragedy King ten years later. He was introduced to Bollywood by the then star actress Devika Rani and made his debut with Jwar Bhaata (1944) which did not do well at the box office.
Dilip Kumar broke into the big league with his first hit film Jugnu three years later. His co-stars were the famous Pakistani singer-cum-actress Noor Jehan and Shashikala.
