Chennai, Aug 4: Filmmaker Selvaraghavan, known for films such as "Pudupettai" and "Mayakkam Enna", Sunday expressed concern over the Tamil film industry which, he said, is still not open to creative movies.
"In the last few years, Tamil cinema has witnessed maximum number of comedy films. Today, producers are keen to invest in dark comedy and sex comedy over other genres. I feel we are going through a dark period and I wish it changes soon," Selvaraghavan told reporters here Sunday.
He was speaking at the audio launch of his upcoming Tamil romantic-drama "Irandam Ulagam".
"There are so many independent filmmakers waiting for a break. Most of them are denied opportunity because their scripts have no scope for comedy. Everybody may not be comfortable with the idea of making a comedy because they have other interesting scripts," he added.
But he is happy PVP Cinema agreed to fund his highly project.
"We need more producers like PVP to support different films. I'm glad that they backed my project and I'm confident that I won't let them down," he said.
"Irandam Ulagam", which has been on floors for nearly two years, features Arya and Anushka Shetty in the lead.
Harris Jayaraj has composed music for the film, which is expected to release soon.
