Motihari, Dec 14: Kaun Banega Crorepati-5 winner Sushil Kumar Singh is yet to receive his Rs 5 crore prize money but he has already been flooded with requests of financial help from people across the country and even abroad.

“I received a number of letters from admirers in the days after winning the jackpot .. Those were mostly congratulatory in nature. But most of the letters of late contain requests for financial help,” he told PTI here.

In fact as much as 95 per cent of the people who wrote to him recently have requested for money to tide over their difficulties, Kumar said.

The youth said he has received letters from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand seeking monetary help either for medical treatment or wedding of a family member.

Letters have been received even from abroad, including one from Sri Lanka from a woman who identified herself as Lechumi and sought monetary for educating her six daughters - a request which has left Kumar flabbergasted.

A resident of Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh recently came to Motihari seeking monetary help from him.

An organisation that identified itself as ‘Mureed' has sought his signature, while another organization publishing hand-written books on religious literature has made an identical request in its letters to him.

There were at the same time some letters which were inspirational and had given Kumar a feeling of satisfaction for winning the KBC-5 jackpot.

Kumar said he had received a number of letters from Maharashtra praising him for his acheivement through hard work.

“These people from Maharashtra said they would like their children to draw inspiration from me to do well in life and emulate me,” Kumar said with pride in his voice.

He said his appointment as MNREGA brand ambassador has been well received by people working under the central flagship programme as a number of the workers have written to him seeking his intervention for enhancement of their remuneration.

Kumar was, however, tightlipped about what he was going to do with the grand sum won by him after answering all the 13 questions in the KBC event hosted by Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

“The organizers have conveyed to me that they will release the money within three to six months”, he said adding that he will then decide how best to use it.
