Mumbai, Feb 11:His debut movie Kai Po Che! is ready to come out and, unfazed by what the box office has in store, "fearless" Sushant Singh Rajput has kept his options open.
He says that if he won't succeed as an actor, he may go back to TV or direct an out-and-out commercial film.
"I want to be a filmmaker. The whole filmmaking process excites me. Acting is something that I am doing right now, but I am learning about the camera work and different perspective that directors have," he said.
"For sure, I will make a commercial film. If nobody would put any money in my film, I will put my money and make a film.
That's one thing I would like to do it. There is no set parameter as such. My focus is to be honest about my work. I might not be very skilled or talented but I will try to give my best. Till the time I am learning, I am happy," he added.
After becoming a star on the small screen as Manav Deshmukh in hit show Pavitra Rishta, he took his big leap as an actor with Abhishek Kapoor-directed Kai Po Che!.
Based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life', the life story of three friends also stars Amit Sadh, Rajkumar Yadav and Amrita Puri, and is coming out on February 22.
"One thing is that the audience who had liked me in television show wants me to do well in films as well... that is one responsibility that I have," Sushant told IANS.
"But talking about myself, I am not insecure at all. In one word, I am a fearless person and if nothing goes right, if I don't do well or if I am not a star or I don't get work I might do TV, theatre again, or make my short films," he added.
Sushant, who had been associated with Barry John's theatre classes in the capital, admits he was sceptical "before going ahead" with the film. However, his motto is to do good roles.
"I am from an acting school and first thing that I had learned was there are no small roles, there are only small actors and I believe in it. I am not overwhelmed by big names, but if there is a good script then I want to be part of it," said the 27-year-old.
His first film is yet to release, but Sushant has already bagged movies with prominent names in the Hindi film industry. He has been signed on for Aamir Khan's Peekay and Yash Raj Films' untitled project with Parineeti Chopra.
While many actors have had their own share of struggles to get a break, Sushant doesn't have any such sob story.
"According to me, what struggle means is that you go and give auditions, have patience. But I have never done that.
When I came to Mumbai, I was doing theatre and was not doing any auditions. One fine day, Ekta (Kapoor) saw me and asked me would you like to do TV or not. She said, 'I will make you a star' and then TV happened," he said.
