New Delhi: The popular comedy show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil' has come to an end, but it's one the actors of the show who is making to the headlines more than anything these days.
We are talking about Kiku Sharda aka Palak who was arrested twice on Wednesday for hurting the religious sentiments of the followers after he imitated Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh during a New Year programme.
While the entire B-town came in support of Kiku, his colleague from ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil', Sunil Grover aka Guthi has also speak up on the issue. Sunil narrates what exactly happened during Kiku's arrest, recalling how Kiku was petrified when they came on the sets to arrest him.
“Ironically, we were shooting the last episode of Comedy Nights before wrapping up on Wednesday night. Late in the night, when we wrapped up they came to take Kiku away. Frankly, he was petrified. We tried to reason with the cops. But they wouldn't hear any of it,” said Sunil to a daily.
“We all know that religious sentiments must never be allowed to be hurt in any of the jokes. It's one of the first rules of stand-up comedy. I don't know how Kiku ended up doing what he did. All I can say is, he was made a scapegoat,” he added.
While Sunil Grover is quite shocked with the incident, he feels that the comedians and the comedy show makers need to be prepared before hand for such incidents.
He stated, “From now on, we comic actors need a lawyer on the sets every time we shoot an episode of a comedy show, to ensure the jokes are not liable to hurt anyone. The agony of his family as they waited for his release could have been my family's agony, too”.
Kiku Sharda was arrested twice under Sec 295 A of the IPC for 'deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings.
