Bollywood director Sudhir Mishra has formed a cartel to distribute films which are not blockbusters. He has dedicated this new unit to his late wife Renu Saluja, says a Mirror report.
‘History won't remember you by what you attempted to do, but by what you succeeded in doing," says Sudhir Mishra.
Tired of watching his films going to waste or languishing for the want of distributors, Sudhir Mishra has now gotten together with like-minded filmmakers who don't have the clout or access to multi-chain releases.
Though at the moment the project is under wraps, Mishra reveals, "Yes I'm forming a cartel only to distribute and market films that don't fit the 'blockbuster' bill. I've spoken to several filmmakers like Ketan Mehta who are sailing in the same boat as me. We're like those old fashioned storytellers sitting under the tree in the village. Our utility doesn't end because corporate giants have taken over the business."
The first film to benefit from Mishra's creative cartel would be Dill Dar-ba-Dar which he has just completed. He plans to release and distribute it through his own means via the newly-formed association on October 1.
This is the day when Sajid Nadiadwala's biggie Anjaana-Anjaani also hits the theatres. But Mishra isn't buckling under pressure. "I think it's wise to release a small film alongside a proposed blockbuster. Audiences are more enthused to step out of their homes and see the films released that week," he says.
Sudhir Mishra plans to dedicate the cartel to his late wife Renu Saluja. He says, "When I decided to make Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi my wife Renu Saluja was still alive. Though she was seriously unwell she took my script to a few big stars who said it was my worst script ever. I dedicated Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi to Renu. Today when I'm in the process of forming a cartel to release films of like-minded storytellers, I remember Renu's support. I dedicate this cartel to her."
