In 1974, Suchitra won Filmfare Award nomination as Best Actress for her Hindi film Aandhi, in which she played the role of a politician. Her co-star Sanjeev Kumar, who playe her husband in the film won won the Filmfare as Best Actor. The film was inspired by the life of India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
In 1959, Suchitra gave one of her most memorable performances in Deep Jwele Jaai. Suchitra's other landmark film with Asit Sen was Uttar Falguni in 1963. In the same year she got international success with her performance in the movie Saat Paake Bandha. And won, the Best Actress Award in Moscow Film Festival.
