Mumbai, Aug 13: Bollywood actress Sridevi, who is making a comeback on the big screen after a gap of nearly 15 years with ‘English Vinglish', says she felt like a newcomer.
‘English Vinglish' is directed by film-maker R Balki's wife Gauri Shinde. It's Gauri's directorial debut.
“I must thank Balki and Gauri for making me feel comfortable. It is my first film after 15 years and I felt like a newcomer,” Sridevi said here.
“I am very happy and excited...it is my first film after many years. I hope everyone likes it,” she said.
The first look of the film was unveiled on Monday evening. Incidentally, 13th August happens to be Sridevi's birthday.
Asked if she felt insecure about the comeback, Sridevi said “I am very confident about this film. I am not insecure.”
‘English Vinglish' is a comedy which explores the language issues. “I fell in love with the script and couldn't say no to it. This film is close to my heart. I would have done this film at any point of a time,” Sridevi said.
In this trilingual movie, which would come out in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, Sridevi plays a housewife who enrolls in an English-speaking course to please her husband and the family.
‘English Vinglish' is set to be released on October 5. Amitabh Bachchan will be making a cameo appearance in the film. He would be seen with Sridevi on screen after 18 years.
“It is always great to work with him,” Sridevi said. She was last seen in a full-fledged role in ‘Judaai' (1997) with Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar.
