Shahid Kapur turned into a Good Samaritan on Saturday when he visited the Air House to meet differently- abled and special children of Umeed. Run under the aegis of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association ( AFWWA), Umeed is a vocational training centre.

For a change, Shahid — accompanied by father Pankaj Kapur and mother Supriya Pathak — reached the venue, Air Chief Marshal P. V. Naik's residence, on time. A few days ago, he had turned up a couple of hours late for a promotional event of his just- released film, Badmaash Company .

At the Air House, Shahid was welcomed by Naik and his wife Madhubaala Naik, also the president of AFWWA. “ It feels great to meet all the kids because they are very inspiring,” said Shahid, who is gearing up to work in his father's film's directorial debut, Mausam . Interestingly, he plays an Indian Air Force officer in the movie.

“ Mausam is the toughest role of my career. If I can do even five per cent of what my father does ( in terms of acting), it will be great. I will try to get close to what he does,” said Shahid.

At the event though, Shahid was the centre of attention as the children from Umeed crooned a song and danced to A. R. Rahman's hit number — Dil Hai Chota Sa from Roja.

After Shahid was presented a memento by Madhubaala Naik, he was swamped by his fans — especially children and women — for autographs and photo- ops.

Shahid, looking suave in a white shirt and black trousers, happily obliged. As he soaked in all the attention, his father chatted with the Air Chief Marshal.

Supriya was also kept busy by her fans. Despite his romantichero image, Shahid looked a bit shy about the attention showered on him by female fans.

But the Kaminey star wasn't shy about openly admiring his father's talent. “ I want him to act more,” he said, when Pankaj was asked about his acting assignments.

Shahid added: “ Dad says I am keeping him away from acting because of Mausam .” To which, Pankaj added: “ I'm dying to act.” Kapur Senior, though, won't be acting in his directorial debut. “ I might do a passing role in it,” he said, adding that Shahid's much- hyped look in the film is yet to be decided.

He also said he was looking forward to working with Shahid. “ He has a very good role in it. I won't say people will be surprised as he has already done films such as Kaminey . But they will be pleased to see him,” he said. “ I hope to work with Shahid as an actor and not a star.” Pankaj will next be seen in Happi and a film- version of the TV show, Office Office.

Supriya also talked about her films. “ I am doing the film version of my TV serial, Khichdi , and will also be seen in Mausam ,” she said
