New Delhi: Remember the song ‘Pyar Kia to Darna Kya' from K Asif's magnum opus, ‘Mughal-E-Azam', released in 1960?
The song was filmed on Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Prithiviraj Kapoor and Durga Khote. While the film was a blockbuster, this song bagged all the eyebrows because of its set, a replica of the ‘Sheesh Mahal' in the Lahore Fort, created using several small mirrors.
It's been more than five decades since the song was shot, and now Sanjay Leela Bhansali is following in the footsteps of K Asif.
Yes, you read that right. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has created another ‘Sheesh Mahal' for a song in his upcoming film ‘Bajirao Mastani', starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.
Reportedly, the set which is called ‘Aaina Mahal' was designed by Sriram Iyengar, Saloni Dhatrak and Sujeet Sawant and built in 40 days. It took over 20,000 intricately designed mirrors, brought specially from Jaipur, to make the set.
The set was reportedly created keeping Maratha architecture in mind and differs from K Asif's ‘Sheesh Mahal' replica in terms of design. Interestingly, the set features 13 chandeliers that were lit up with candles for the song's shoot.
Although, Bhansali is known for his extravagant sets and background, the creation of ‘Aaina Mahal' was a difficult task since he had to match the level set by K Asif. However, only time will reveal the success of Bhansali's grand attempt.
The much talked about ‘Bajirao Mastani' is slated to hit the theatres in December this year.
