Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh however justifies the parole order saying: "The application was recommended by an ACP from Mumbai police and the Yerawada jail superintendent. Considering these recommendations, I have approved Sanjay Dutt's parole for 30 days. The reasons for seeking leave include his wife's illness."
DIG Prisons Rajendra Dhamane said, "an inmate is entitled to a parole even on th next day of returning from furlough".
Sanjay Dutt had been granted furlough during Dussehra from Yerawada jail.
