Lucknow/Mumbai, May 31: Popular music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestant Namrata Singh and her father Ramesh Singh died in a road mishap near Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Police said, the car in which Namrata and her family members were travelling was hit head-on by a speeding truck near Sandila, 40 km away from Hardoi.
Namrata Singh died on the spot, while her father succumbed to injuries in hospital. Namrata's two sisters and a brother are in critical condition.
Namrata was supposed to return to Mumbai by train on Saturday after enjoying her summer holidays.
Hundreds of people gathered outside her home in Hardoi, where her mother and other family members are in a shocked state since Thursday.
Namrata shot into prominence, when she passed the mega audition of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa show in UP, and then went to Mumbai to participate in the contest. Her rendition of Lata Mangeshkar's songs were praised by the likes of Shankar Mahadevan and Sajid Wajid.
Namrata had been doing several songs for Bhojpuri films, and was eyeing an entry to Bollywood, when the hands of fate snatched her away.
