New Delhi: Tamil remake action flicks have become the current flavour of Bollywood and a mantra for sure success at the BO.
Prabhu Deva came with his action-packed Rowdy Rathore starring Akshay and stormed the Box Office hit list with raw fight scenes.
Expectations towards any flick coming from this genre are therefore naturally high. As of now, the acid test will be of Kabir Khan's “Ek Tha Tiger”, which, through its promos, promises a high dose of action drama.
'Ek Tha Tiger' has two main USPs -- One: Salman-Katrina reunion after four years when ‘Yuvvraaj' flopped at the box office, Two: director Kabir Khan's fame is at stake, he debuted with ‘Kabul Express' but was critically acclaimed for his 9/11 based flick “New York”.
The story revolves around a dashing RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) officer nicknamed Tiger and effectively portrayed by Salman Khan, who is sent on a mission to Dublin and Ireland. His mission is to track down an Indian origin scientist, who is suspected of sharing his research discoveries with Pakistan's defence establishment.
Though Tiger fails to come across the scientist, he finds his part-time caretaker Zoya, played by the beautiful Katrina Kaif, and falls in love with her, a strict no-no for any secret agent, be it James Bond of MI6 or a RAW/KGB/Mossad/ISI agent.
Struggling and confronting with the dark world outside to gain his love is howthe flick “Ek Tha Tiger” deals with.
The music initially to be composed by Pritam was later assigned to music director Sohail Sen of “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” fame. The music is doing well and tracks like “Mashallah, Laapata and Banjaara” have already become chartbusters.
So, with good music, taut direction and the Bollywood jodi setting the screen on fire in place, Ek Tha Tiger promises to provide a big weekend for cinegoers. The flick has been released on a Wednesday, being India's Independence Day, so patriotic fervour will contribute its bit too.
Already, Bollywood pundits say, the flick is expected to gross hugely at the Box Office. Salman Khan's success rate has been escalating rapidly since his 2009 comeback in action genre starring ‘Wanted' and thereafter ‘Ready', ‘Dabangg' and last year's ‘Bodygaurd'.
The Box Office expects this flick to join the 100cr. Club, while Salman is dreaming big: he is eyeing the 200cr mark.
It will be interesting to watch how the Dabangg Khan will be able to capitalize on the the festive season of I-Day and Eid and reach his target.
