Leh: Singer Rekha Bhardwaj had to be taken to a hospital here after suffering from breathlessness Saturday.
Rekha, who is here with her filmmaker-husband Vishal Bhardwaj for the second edition of the Ladakh International Film Festival, is said to have gone out for sightseeing Saturday. And the thin oxygen supply here took a toll on her, said a source from the LIFF team.
She was given oxygen, but it didn't seem to work enough, and she was thus taken to the hospital.
Vishal and even veteran lyricist-writer-filmmaker Gulzar, who is close to the couple, missed the premiere of "The Frontier Gandhi", a documentary by Teri McLuhan, to be by Rekha's side.
They had arrived here Thursday.
Rekha is known for her songs like "Namak ishq ka" from the movie "Omkara", "Sasural genda phool" from "Delhi-6", "Raat ke dhaai baje" from "Kaminey". Recently she had the country dancing to the beats of "Ghaghra" featuring actors Madhuri Dixit-Ranbir Kapoor from the 2013 box office hit "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani".
She also won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Badi dheere jali" from the movie "Ishqiya" in 2010.
