In year 2001 his career took a new turn with Dil Chahta hai which gave his career the required push. In year 2003 he came in film Kal Ho Na Ho with Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta. The film became the second top grossing film of the year. Saif won Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award, as well as other awards in that category.
