New Delhi: Randeep Hooda starrer ‘Rang Rasiya' is facing a battle with its release. An interim injunction order has been passed by the Mavelikkara munsiff court on Tuesday banning the release of the film, which is set to come out this Friday.
Rang Rasiya has grounds with the life of 19th century Indian painter, Raja Ravi Varma and while the film claims to be telling the truth about the life of the legendary artist, his family is not approving the facts portrayed in the film.
Following a complaint by the granddaughter of Raja Ravi Varma, Indiradevi Kunjamma, the court has taken a stance over either adding disclaimer in the movie or else curbing the release.
The judgment passed by Judge Prasun Mohan says that the makers of the film should not release the film without adding the disclaimer that the film has no connection with the personal life of Varma.
The film has earlier been under the controversies for its sexually explicit scenes and now in another petition filed by S Amrutha Kumar of Thekkekkara in Mavelikkara, it has been alleged that the film attempts to defame the image of Raja Ravi Varma and that he has been shown as a womanizer in the film.
The PIL also has it that there is no truth in the story that the film claims.
Further, the petitioner has even revealed that the certification to Rang Rasiya was initially refused considering the overtly sexual visuals and nudity shown in a few scenes, but later it got passed by a revising committee chaired by Sharmila Tagore.
Moreover, alleging that the great painter has been depicted as a playboy and that surely stands as a very shameful act by the makers, the petitioner has even stated the matter as a clear violation of the provisions of the Cinematograph Act 1952.
In order to make the entire issue more intense, it has also been deemed that quite opposite to what have been portrayed in the film, painter Varma had undertaken meditation and ‘sadhana' for 40 days at Mookambika Devi Temple at Kollur in Karnataka, where he had vision of Goddess of Saraswati that triggered him to paint the images of Gods and Goddesses.
