Aurangabad, Dec 7: Efforts by a die-hard fan of late singer Mohammed Rafi paved the way for the artist's name to figure in the ‘India Book of Records' for lending voice to ‘maximum number of faces on the silver screen'.

Mateen Parvez S M Turab, a professor in electronics technology, has made a list of 100 film stars and unknown faces, for whom, the singer, during his career, had lend his voice. However, to make a list of those 100 faces, Mateen says he had to go through thousands of songs sung by Rafi.

The ‘Limca Book of Records' has also assured to register Rafi's feat in its 2012 issue, Mateen said.  “Since the childhood, I was a fan of Rafisaab and had a lot of collection of his songs,” Mateen told PTI.  “One day, I asked myself how many actors had Rafisaab given his voice for? I embarked upon finding it out and in the last five years, I was able to collect the faces on the screen, for whom, he had lent his voice,” he said.

“My study came to an end, when I came to know about hundred popular actors as well as unfamiliar faces. These include 42 popular Indian film stars, 40 well-known character actors and 18 unfamiliar faces. These songs were sung by Rafisaab between 1944 to 1980.”

Mateen said that the ‘India Book of Records' honored him with a trophy and certificate in November.

He says he is now trying to reach the Guinness Book of World Records to register the feat of his beloved singer.  Mateen also feels that the singer should be honoured with the ‘Bharat Ratna' award posthumously for his art.
