Chandigarh, May 17 : The Nawanshahar police in Punjab today booked controversial Rap singer Yo Yo Honey Singh for singing vulgar songs like 'Main Hoon Balatkari' in the wake of the Delhi bus gangrape incident.
Police filed a case against the singer under Section 294 of Indian Penal Code, after Punjab and Haryana High Court on May 14 directed the state government to take immediate cognisance of the vulgar and depraved songs sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh and take action.
Yo Yo Honey Singh, who sings in a mixture of English and Punjabi, has also sung for Bollywood mainstream films like Khiladi 786, cocktail, Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana.
The High Court observed that Yo Yo Honey Singh has brought disrepute to Indian culture and heads hang in shame after listening to his offensive lyrics.
The High Court had also observed that the dignity of human beings cannot be disgraced under the garb of right to freedom of speech and expression as enshrined under Artile 19 of the Indian Constitution. It had also observed that women also have every right to protect their dignity under the right to life under Article 21.
A Nawanshahr based NGO HELP had filed a complaint in the High Court over Yo Yo Honey Singh's offensive lyrics.
