New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's new offering Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has broken all box office records with over Rs 40 crore collection on first day of its release.
The record of biggest opening was held by last year Diwali relase Shah Rukh khan starrer Happy New Year. It's also the biggest single day of all time, edging past the first Sunday figures of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK which were about Rs 38.50 crores nett.
Announcing the total collection of day one, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#PremRatanDhanPayo collects ₹ 40.35 cr on Day 1. Hindi version only... Tamil and Telugu biz being compiled... OUTSTANDING START!"

The movie has been release in over 4500 screens in India and 1100 screens overseas.
The film is an expensive film as director Suraj Barjatya has said, "After completing the film, I had a relatively off day and so I decided to look at the accounts. It's then that I realised that Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a very expensive film and if it doesn't make a lot of money, all this would amount to nothing."
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo also stars Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher and Armaan Kohli in important roles.
