Choosing Kya Kehna over other projects:
While other actresses were choosing roles that would highlight them in glam frame, Preity did the unusual. She decided to go ahead with Kundan Shah's 'Kya Kehna', where she played the role of a teenager left pregnant by her lover and her journey for single parenthood thereafter.
At that time the nation had to sit up and appreciate the courage with which Preity defied the outcast norms of Indian mentality.
Her brave step won her wide recognition and applauds from the critics. She also won her first nomination for Filmfare Best Actress award the same year.
She later chose to star in a male-dominated flick, Dil Chahta Hai. Despite her over compressed role, Preity made her presence felt in the entire movie.
