Mumbai: India's public broadcaster Prasar Bharati, in its bid to remodel Doordarshan, may rope in Bollywood actress Kajol to its board.
Kajol's name is among seven people proposed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to the Union Home Ministry. All the names have been reportedly approved by the MHA which has now sent the list to the vice president who will shortlist four of them.
Other names in the list include noted bhajan singer Anup Jalota, former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee's media advisor Ashok Tandon and senior journalist Minhaz Merchant.
The final names will be announced after the meeting between the vice president, I&B Secretary and chairman of Press Council of India.
Shortlisted names will serve as the part time members of the board.
I&B minister, Arun Jaitley has been of the view to revamp Doordarshan to get back its popularity but it is the first time someone of the stature of Kajol has been considered for the role.
Members of the Prasar Bharati board include a chairman, a chief executive officer, a member (finance), a member (personnel), six part-time members, a representative of the I&B ministry and DGs of All India Radio and Doordarshan as ex-officio members.
