Mumbai: After three months of stiff competition between 102 singers from across the country rendering Indian classical to Bollywood numbers to folk songs, Uttarakhand-based Pawandeep Rajan on Sunday was announced as the winner of singing reality show "The Voice India" based on votes from audiences across India.
Pawandeep, known for his versatility in various genres including Bollywood and classical, performed consistently well throughout the season of the singing reality show.
He defeated Parampara Thakur, Sahil Solanki, Snigdhajit Bhowmik, Rishabh Chaturvedi, Vishva Shah, Deepesh Rahi and Sachet Tandon to take home a whooping Rs.50 lakh cash prize from &TV, a Maruti Alto K10 car and a deal to record his first single with music label Universal.
"The show is a huge platform and I feel overjoyed with this win. I feel extremely humbled with all the love and appreciation received from the audience across the country. I would first and foremost like to thank coach Shaan who thought I was good enough to make the cut and mentored me wholeheartedly. The show brought together the best talent and quite honestly with this kind of platform, I am sure everyone has gone back only as a winner," Pawandeep said in a statement.
He was presented the trophy by the four coaches - Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Mika and Himesh Reshammiya.
"Pawandeep has grown exponentially through the show right from the 'Blind Auditions' to the 'Battle', 'The Live' round and made it to the top four in the finale. It was our job to pick the best and mentor them only for the audience to pick their favourite voice. I am proud of Pawandeep for winning this title and I wish him all the very best for a melodious future," Shaan said.
Hosted by actor Karan Tacker, the finale of "The Voice India", an Indian version of the internationally acclaimed reality entertainer "The Voice" was a musical extravaganza witnessing some power-packed performances by the four coaches, who were joined by Bollywood singers Kanika Kapoor, Neeti Mohan, Ash King and Siddharth Mahadevan.
To add some comic element to the final, stand-up comedian and TV show host Kapil Sharma, who is set for his Bollywood debut with "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon", was seen promoting the forthcoming comic family entertainer along with his co-star Elli Avram and director duo Abbas-Mustan.
"The Voice India" will be replaced by crime-drama series "Agent Raghav", which will starsSharad Kelkar and Aahana Kumra in lead roles. The weekend show will start on September 5.
