Mumbai: Internationally renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who often uses the digital platform to express his views on various subjects, says his opinions are based on his own experiences and are not about "others' lives".

Bollywood actor-producer Aamir Khan faced a backlash for his comment on "growing despondency" earlier this month. While Kapur's recent tweet seemed to target the superstar, the "Masoom" director said that it wasn't.

He had tweeted earlier this week: "Lessons of Life: Problem with fame is you now constantly need fame to prove your worth to yourself. A child constantly crying out for attention."

One of the Twitter users commented that at least a "wise person like @shekharkapur should have watched complete interview of @aamir_khan! Sad!"

Kapur replied saying: "Nothing I say has to do with others' lives. My tweets are lessons of life to myself, not others... my own experiences."

In another tweet, the filmmaker shared that for culture to flourish, it "must grow and absorb conflicts inherent in change or it becomes like a river that ceases to flow and begins to fester".

He also tweeted that "40 percent Indians live desperate oppressive lives. In poverty, cast, no sanitation, water, food, dignity etc. Wonder how they feel about #Intolerance".

On another note, he hailed "Court" - helmed by Chaitanya Tamhane by calling it "the most stunning Indian film I've seen in 20 years. Not since Satyajit Ray have I seen such a cinematic power".

"Court" is India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category of the upcoming 88th Academy Awards.
