Mumbai: Actress-turned-director Nandita Das, who is looking forward to the release of children's film ‘Gattu', says, not many such movies are being made today.

She also hoped that ‘Chillar Party', ‘Stanley Ka Dabba' and other films start a trend of children movies.  ‘Gattu' is a children's Hindi film directed by Rajan Khosa and produced by the Children's Film Society, India, whose chairperson is Nandita Das.

“I don't think there are a lot children films. I hope that films like ‘I am Kalaam', ‘Stanley Ka Dabba', ‘Chillar Party' start a trend of children's films,” Nandita Das told reporters here.

“It's all about creating space for these kinds of films that we are making. Only big starrer films don't have to be promoted all the time. We are not saying we are fighting the big films. All we are saying is that there is space for these kind of films to exist and there is a need for them,” Das said.

Though the film is yet to release in India, but ‘Gattu' has gained high recognition in the Film Festival circuit.

“Children are exposed to movies like Rowdy Rathore, which is fine, but there must be something which is age appropriate.

How can the same film appeal to a six-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 60-year-old,” she said.  Talking about the film, director Rajan Khosa, said that it is about a street kid Gattu, who sneaks in as a student into a school and pretends to study. The only problem is he is illiterate,” he said.

The film is expected to release on July 20.
