Nanda's funeral pics: Salim Khan, Shashi Kala and Tabassum pay their tribute

One of the most ethereal yesteryear's actress of Bollywood, Nanda passed away following a massive cardiac arrest. The entire film fraternity mourned the death of the actress who is renowned for her performances in films

One of the most ethereal yesteryear's actress of Bollywood, Nanda passed away following a massive cardiac arrest.


The entire film fraternity mourned the death of the actress who is renowned for her performances in films like ‘Hum Dono,' ‘Gumnaam,' and ‘Ittefaq.'

Her last rites were performed at the Oshiwari crematorium and many veteran actors and others associated with the film industry came to support the family.

While Nanda is believed to have no history of illness, her close friends and relatives including the family members are in complete shock over the sudden death of the actress. She shared screen space with noted actors like Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Rajesh Khanna and Shashi Kapoor with whom she starred in eight films.

Salman Khan's father Salim Khan, Tabassum, Shashikala are amongst many others who went to give condolences to the family of the actress. Here follows a few pictures from Nanda's funeral. Take a look!



Nanda was nominated for Filmfare Award five times for her performance in Bhabhi (1957), Aanchal (1960), Ittefaq (1969), Ahista Ahista (1981) and Prem Rog (1982). She won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for 'Aanchal'.



After a small role in Manoj Kumar's 1972 film 'Shor', Nanda reduced her work in films. Her other films such as 'Chhalia' and 'Naya Nasha' did not work.



Veteran actress Tabassum, who is also deemed as Nanda's one of the close friends expresses her grief on the actress's death.



Another veteran actress Shashikala arrives at the place. Shashikala is also taken one of the members of Nanda's group of friends.



Popular writer and superstar Salman Khan's father Salim Khan too attended the last rites of the actress Nanda.



Nanda made a brief return to acting in 1982 as a character actress where she played the onscreen mother of Padmini Kolhapure in 'Ahista Ahista', 'Mazdoor' and 'Prem Rog'.



Born to Marathi film actor-director Vinayak Damodar Karnataki, Nanda began her silver screen career early as a child artist with 'Jaggu' in the 50s.



She excelled most often as a supporting star but also found great acceptance and popularity as a lead heroine in later years.



She was always a shy and introvert teenage and as she grew up to be a beautiful young lady she remained as the same old shy person. Actress Waheeda Rehman was always there for her during her life's hardships, she remained her best friend all her life.


Nanda until her death had a group of 5 friends form Bollywood including, Waheeda Rehman, Helen, Asha Parekh, Sadhna and Shammi Kapoor with whom she regularly had lunches and used to watch movies. 



She went onto being Bollywood's 2nd highest paid actress after Nutan from 1960-1965, 2nd highest paid Hindi actress in 1966-1969 along-with Nutan and Waheedha and 3rd highest paid Hindi actress with Sadhana from 1970-1973.


Nanda being a shy person never had any relationships, even when a handsome Maharashtrian colonel approached her mother with a marriage proposal for Nanda, nothing came out of it. She remained unmarried all her life.



She might have had a turbulent personal life, but Nanda never gave that away in her movies.
