The actor denied media reports that the Indian police has been portrayed in the movie  as helpless, surrendering before Pakistani terrorists. "It's a false charge", Patekar said.

About his famed short-temper in the industry, Patekar admitted: "Yes, I am a little short-tempered due to which I have lost some roles. I lost the role in A Wednesday, which was played by Naseeruddin Shah.

"My looks prevented me from playing the conventional hero, but on Smita Patil's insistence, I did Aaj Ki Awaaz. Soon enough, offers started pouring in, and I worked in Ankush, Karamveer, Pratighaat, Salaam Bombay, Trishagni and Sagar Sangam -- the roles were good, but they were not what I was looking for.  Still, I stuck on, and commercial recognition finally came with Parinda".
