New Delhi, March 21:  Acclaimed filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor, who doesn't mind facing the camera once in a while, says he is essaying the role of a pimp in his directorial "Laxmi", which is a story around child prostitution.

"The film is in post-production stage. I am planning to send it to various national and international film festivals. I am acting in the film after a long time. I play a pimp," Kukunoor told IANS.

The film revolves around the life of a child prostitute, who overcomes several hardships to becomes a mature woman, setting an example for many.

Asked if the film is based on a real life story of a prostitute, he said: "No, it is not an individual's story. Rather, I have taken inspiration from many. Extensive research work has been done."

"The film highlights a woman's emotions and the difficult circumstances she goes through. It also highlights the cruel realities of life. I'd say its a fictional account of real stories. Ram Kapoor and Shefali Shah will play the leads."

Commenting on the changing face of Indian cinema, Kukunoor said the film industry is gladly, now, providing space to everyone.

"We have both - commercial and realistic filmmakers. Viewers watch whatever they like and what they want to. Different people have different ambitions. One should come up with the stories they believe in," he said.

Apart from the film, Kukunoor is ready to judge "Mission Covershot", a weekly programme on the National Geographic channel, set to go on air March 25.

"I am appearing as a mentor and judge for the first time. I was sure it wasn't like the other reality TV shows. Also, I have always followed their monthly magazine, so I was excited about the show," said the maker of films like ""Iqbal", "Aashayein" and "Dor".

"The show has a unique concept. It provides eight ametuer photographers a chance to take their best shots in picturesque Sri Lanka and to get them published," he added.
