Mumbai: Music director Khayyam announced the formation of a charity trust called 'Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur' KPG Charitable Trust tp mark the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary.
His entire wealth valued around Rs. 10 crore was donated to his own trust, which will help needy artists and technicians of the film industry.
Mohammed Zahur "Khayyam" Hashmi, better known as Khayyam, has composed some of the most melodious tracks in Bollywood in a career spanning over four decades (1953–1990).
He chose his birthday to announce that he is donating his entire wealth valued around Rs 10 crore.
Having composed the music for masterpieces like Kabhi Kabhi, Umrao Jaan, and Bazaar, Khayyam has worked with some of the greatest poets and singers of India.
From the lyrically luminous melody 'Kabhie kabhie mere dil mein khayaal aata hai to the vibrant and zingy 'Tere chehre se nazar nahin hathti , the music of Kabhie Kabhie covered the entire gamut of romantic emotions in an arc of eternity.
He has won three Filmfare Awards for Best Music in 1977 for Kabhi Kabhie and 1982 for Umrao Jaan, and a lifetime achievement award in 2010.
He has also been awarded the third-highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for 2011.
