Mumbai, March 10: Policemen at the Byculla police station in Mumbai on Thursday midnight shouted at TV actor Alefia, who plays the character Latika in Star serial Pyaar Ka Dard Hai, for frequently calling women's distress helpline.Alefia Kapadia had a quarrel with her husband, who, she alleged, first took away her daughter, and then tried to forcibly take away her son on Thursday night, when she called up the women's helpline. Instead, the police inspector who reached the spot sided with the husband, and shouted at her saying she was unnecessarily calling women's helpline, says a Mumbai Mirror report. Alefia lives in her Mazgaon apartment and her husband Premnawaz Dharamraj allegedly attempted to take away her three-year-old son and the policemen allegedly insulted her instead of coming to her rescue. Premnawaz Dharamraj was allegedly shouting and banging at Alefia's sixth floor apartment door in Ashtagandha building, when the Byculla police arrived following a distress call by Alefia to the women's helpline.But instead of detaining Premnawaz and booking him for creating nuisance,one of the officers allegedly insulted Alefia in full public view for harassing the police.The fracas took place outside Alefia's sixth-floor flat in Ashtagandha building.Alefia on Saturday met senior police officers seeking action against the Byculla police for not extending support to a woman in distress.The actor and her husband started living separately since 2011, after a marriage of over nine years. Alefia came to Mumbai from her home in Dubai and has since been staying at the apartment of her husband in Asthagandha building with a 9-year-old daughter and a son aged three.For all these days, her husband has been visiting her on the pretext of meeting the kids and even been living in the same apartment during his visits. “I did not object then because he said he wanted to meet the kids. He would take them out, buy them expensive gifts and pamper them,” Alefia told Mumbai Mirror.The visits, Alefia claims, affected the kids' studies as they stopped going to schools. Alefia had a fight with Premnawaz when she raised the issue and even had to call the police for help.Alefia thinks allowing Premnawaz to stay in the apartment and mix with kids was not a right move since a month ago, Premnawaz took away her daughter without her consent, who has been staying at his Lokhandwala apartment in Andheri.“He even took away my daughter's passport and photocopied some of my personal documents. He brainwashed my daughter so much that she now makes some false accusations against me,” Alefia said.Around 6 pm on Friday, Premnawaz reached Alefia's house and demanded to meet his son. When Alefia refused to comply, Premnawaz allegedly locked the flat from outside so that he could meet the son, who was in the neighbour's house. Alefia called the police, who took Alefia and her husband to the police station and warned Premnawaz.Two hours later, Premnawaz was outside Alefia' house with his daughter, and allegedly demanded to meet his son. When Alefia refused to let him in, he allegedly banged on the door and kicked it. Alefia called police again and also asked her parents to reach immediately. “I called up Inspector Raghunath Dabavne for help and was shocked when he told me to let Premnawaz in.”When Alefia insisted on help, Byculla police staff reached her apartment but shouted at her and family for constantly harassing them. Alefia and Premnawaz were then brought to the police station, where Inspector Dabavne allegedly intimidated Alefia and her parents for keeping the cops on toes.“What are you up to? Why do you call police so often,” Byculla senior police officers asked Alefia.“I was shocked by the approach. Here was a helpless woman, whose daughter has been taken away by her husband, and she wants to protect her son. The police instead of booking my husband threatened me instead,” Alefia said.DCP (Zone 3) Vinayak Deshmukh said Alefia met him and aired her complaint.“I have directed the senior inspector to investigate into the complaints,” Deshmukh said.The officer said he had also directed Byculla police not to call Alefia or for that matter any woman for investigation in the night. “Women should be asked to visit police station only during the day time. I have also directed that the officer, against whom Alefia has complaints, be kept away from the case,” DCP Deshmukh added.
