Movie review: Talaash-not too mysterious

New delhi, Nov 30: Rating: ** ½Cast: Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherji, Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raj Kumar YadavDirector: Reema KagtiMusic Director: Ram SampathSuspense flicks are meant to keep the viewers glued to their seats and make them use their grey cells to sum up the climax. With Vidya Balan's 'Kahaani' the only suspense drama early this year till the much-awaited Talaash hit the theatres, the former had a better suspense story in every aspect.The expectations from the comeback Khan is always on a high as what he offers through his flicks are entirely different from any other filmmaker and actor. But unfortunately its not one of the best flicks of Mr. Perfectionist, yet not the worst. A bit of suspense, a pinch of thriller in the end, a high on emotion but everything predictable assembles into Talaash. As said everything predictable, the biggest surprise revealed in the end that Rosy, played by Kareena Kapoor, a sex worker in Mumbai's red area is already dead might not make you jump into your seats when it's finally revealed, as you easily grab it out few moments before. Yes, the ‘Chameli' shaded girl is not feasible to anybody except Surjan Singh Shekhawat portrayed by Aamir Khan who finds her one night in the lonely lanes of Mumbai, and takes her help in a death case of a B'wood superstar Armaan Khan played by Bhatena, but in reality its Rosy who has chosen Surjan for a sweet revenge and to solve the mystery of Armaan's death.The first half is toooo slow with such a dim pace that you will surely feel sleepy, is Reema Kagti listening? Nothing surprising, no eye grabbing moment. It's just Sujan and Roshni who are not in their world after their 8 year old son's death. You might also feel lonely in the theaters even if accompanied by your partner or friends.Surjan spents sleepless nights solving Armaan's death mystery while meeting Rosy, at the same time avoids his wife who still believes in the existence of her son for which she approaches her neighbor who helps reach her son. Sujan while solving the death mystery, comes across numerous faces, including one with a broken leg Tehnur portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Time to time when Sujan delves deep into the mystery, he finds an indirect connection with Rosy's surreal world where his son belongs to. He finds it's the dead Rosy responsible for Armaan's death as three years back he left Rosy dead on the road. But the case closes formally as Surjan's senior cop terms it a non-belief.Co-written by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, we expected a blast from them but it all went haywire. Except for the last few minutes, where they unfold the very predictable mystery, the entire flick drags you to a feeling of ennui and disappointment. It may be their way of making a suspense thriller, but c'mon, we have seen so many better flicks similar to it.As mentioned earlier, Talaash is not one of the best suspense thrillers and it does not bear the perfectionist stamp from Aamir. Yes, we were disappointed as the hype that was made up, didn't stand up to it. The flick was set to release last year but now we have a hunch why it got postponed for a late release.But apart from revealing an open mystery, the ongoing Surjan's parallel story unfolds the truth lying within. An attempt to look beyond the real and obvious is wise. You might not get tempted but still a belief in those who are resting in peace, but are still nearby you might find a place in your heart.Though Aamir's role is descent but if we considering ‘Sarfarosh” we expect more out of him. He is good at discipline and loyal cop and does justice to his role. Slapping down the street baddies and tackling others is good.Rani looks charming in her simple Saari and as she worked in this before “Aiyaa” hit the floors, she looks more refreshing in this. Kapoor as Rosy is beautiful. Her style of driving in Surjan works. Though has less in her role but convinces.The film's standout performance comes from Nawazuddin Sidiqui, who's had a cracker of a year so far and more of him is expected in the coming years.Ram Sampath adds techno music along with a complimentary background score but is not a memorable one. ‘Jiya Lage Na' and ‘Jee le zara' are good to listen.I'll go with a generous 2.5 stars for Reema Kagti's Talaash. Just go to witness Aamir Khan on silver screen after a long time, but this suspense thriller doesn't needs much brain to tackle out the mystery…sadly, though may force to discover the non-feasible.
