Kolkata, July 9: Having done a lot of fashion shows on a premium lifestyle channel, ‘The Big Fat Indian Wedding' anchor Ambika Anand feels an Indian supermodel blazing the ramp in Milan and New York is only a matter of time.
Talking at Fbr.Inc show, the ‘Band Baaja Bride' show-hoster said “Our very own Freida Pinto outshone international models at Paris Fashion Week.
“She has shown the way. We can have our own Kate Moss too. There will be more Freidas in days to come as our girls are more becoming more confident and Indian models are ruling the roost,” Ambika said referring to Freida's feat at the Channel show in Paris Fashion Week eclipsing Kate and Claudia Schiffer.”
Ambika, the show-stopper at Spring-Summer Collection of Fbr.Inc, recalled how she catapulted into fashion from business reporting when a leading channel offered her ‘Band Baaja Bride' show.
“I find Sabyasachi Mukherjee as one of the most creatively versatile designers from the city,” she said. “Creating a dramatic bold twist with understated accessories is the most sought after trend and Indianness is the key,” she said.
Ambika, who found the work of young designer Farheen Bushra Rahman, as one of the most representative ones in the city, said she was first introduced to Rahman's NISDA Apparels in UK in 2010 and found them imaginative.
Pointing towards the popularity of ‘Band Baaja Bride' she said in her next show ‘I'm Too Sexy for My Shoes' the format will enable a Bollywood star and do some photo shoots. Freida, who had moved to New York to concentrate on her Hollywood career.
“Ambika can be the best ambassador for our simple, classic, tailored stiches in black and white. She is our show-stopper,” Farheen said.
