New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra's ‘Mary Kom' is set for a strong first weekend as within first two days of its release the flick has got an exceptional response considering it's genre.
After the opening day figures of Rs 8 cr, the biopic witnessed a decent growth and collected Rs 9.75 cr on Saturday taking the two days total to Rs 17.75 cr nett in India.
Released in around 3,000 screens all over, the Omung Kumar directorial is expected to make good business considering it's also the solo release this week, though it has received mixed response by the critics.
Compared to other women-centric hits released earlier this year namely Queen and Mardaani, Mary Kom's collection is leading way ahead. Rani Mukerji's ‘Mardaani' in its first two days made mere Rs 8.21 cr while Kangana Ranaut's ‘Queen' earned just over Rs 5 cr in India. However, Queen became a slow hit in India while it's still running at overseas.
Being made tax-free by the government of numerous states, Mardaani in its two weeks has made Rs 31.80 cr nett in India as per data collected by a leading daily website Koimoi.
Mary Kom too is helped similarly and since it has a major number of screens counts comparatively, the collection is expected to grow further.
Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Singham Returns, on the other hand, in three weeks has made Rs 140 cr nett in India and is still counting in its fourth week.
Last week's release ‘Raja Natwarlal' was already facing a tough competition from earlier releases namely Mardaani and Singham Returns and now it's completely overshadowed by Pee Cee's Mary Kom. In its first week, Raja Natwarlal has made only Rs 26 cr which doesn't even recover its production cost.
