Lamba, who was booked under the IPC sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), was later granted bail on surety of Rs 5000 by the Versova police station, they said.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday morning when Lamba was cleaning his pistol in his seventh floor office in Bhaktani tower.
Rahul Bhatt, son of film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, was also present in the office when the bullet was accidentally fired.
“Vikram has been booked under IPC section 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others),” Additional Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil said.
Lamba and Bhatt were sitting in the former's office when Lamba started cleaning his pistol.
“A bullet was accidentally shot which hit the corridor of Central Institute of Fisheries Education. (Following which) the shards of wall and glass window pierced into the body of a one Praveen Patil, causing minor injury to him,” Patil added.
However, Lamba did not turn up at the police station, thinking that the incident would go unnoticed, sources said. After the complaint by Patil, police began investigating and ascertaining the direction of the bullet.
When they reached the Bhaktani tower, Lamba revealed that it was because of him that the incident had occurred. His statement was then recorded and he was arrested today, police said.
