Mumbai: Bollywood actor Lara Dutta, who is all charged up for her first home production, 'Challo Dilli', says it was her husband Mahesh Bhupathi who conceived the item song 'Laila O Laila' which features Yana Gupta.
"We needed a song in the film that had a little bit of masti and was based on a woman. Mahesh loved the film 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' and my character was Laila in the film. So it was his idea that we should get Laila and remix it. Yana is doing an item song 'Laila O Laila' in the film. No one except Yana was approached," Lara told PTI here.
"We were lucky enough to get the rights of the song. It is not a tribute to Zeenatji but I would say it is a tribute to the iconic song. We have kept Zeenatji in the loop and yes, she has liked the song," Lara said.
Yana grooves to remixed version of Zeenat Aman's popular number 'Laila O Laila' from the film 'Qurbani' in Challo Dilli.
Directed by Shashant Shah of 'Dasvidaniya' fame, the film stars Lara and Vinay Pathak.
"Of course the song adds a value to the film. People will have expectations since 'Laila O Laila' was a classic song, so people will expect the song to be as good as the original one or better, and comparisons will be made. But we are not trying to make a statement that ours is better," the former beauty queen said.
Produced by Eros International in association with Big Daddy Productions (owned by Globosport of Mahesh Bhupathi) and Lara's Bheegi Basanti, the film releases on April 29. PTI
