New Delhi: Pay cheques will always remain a sensitive topic for mankind. So, when the touchy topic of the salaries of Bollywood stars entered the conversation, it became an interesting source of gossip.
It all started when a woman asked veteran actor Anupam Kher on Twitter about his opinions on the payment disparity in Bollywood. Kher had then answered the question with, "I agree in certain cases it is true. But Madhuri was paid more than Salman in HAHK ('Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!')"
This started a trend and everyone was surprised that superstar Salman Khan settled for less pay than co-star Madhuri Dixit. At an event where Salman was promoting his production movie ‘Hero', he was asked if this was the reality. He had said, “I don't think that's true.”
With this statement, the rumours were put to bed.
But, perhaps, not to sleep.
The maverick who started this conversation asked this question to Madhuri. On ‘The Anupam Kher Show', Anupam asked her, "Were you indeed paid more than Salman Khan in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun?"
The humble actress replied, "Well, I heard the news and I just went with the flow, I let the news roll."
So, if it was just a trick by Anupam to start some gossip, it worked well. If it is true, then it suggests that maybe Bollywood can work towards equalling the status of male and female actors.
