Mumbai, May 27: A leopard strayed into actress-MP Hema Malini's bungalow in suburban Malad today and left hours later, forest officials said.
The veteran filmstar was not present at the bungalow, located in Dindoshi area, when the big cat, probably from the adjoining Sanjay Gandhi National Park, made a ‘stopover' at her residence, the officials said.
The house caretaker first noticed the leopard early today on the bungalow lawns and alerted local police and Park officials, who sent a team with a cage and also tranquilisers in an effort to trap it. However, their search proved futile as the leopard left the premises.
The Park spread over around 100 square kms in northwest Mumbai, has a sizable population of leopards and some of them often stray into adjoining residential areas. Maharashtra Forest Minister Patangrao Kadam said he has sought information from senior officials on the incident. “We will find out how the leopard strayed into the bungalow,” Kadam said.
In a lighter vein, the minister quipped: “How did the leopard know that it was Hema Malini's bungalow?” PTI
