New Delhi: Kavita Krishnamurthy is one of the finest playback singers in the history of Indian Film music. She has lent her voice to many soulful songs in different Indian languages.
In a career spanning over 38 years, Kavita has worked with a string of reputed music composers including R. D. Burman, Hamsalekha and A. R. Rahman.
Born on January 25, 1958 in a Tamil Iyer family, Kavita started singing from the young age of eight and won many music competitions. At the age of nine, she got an opportunity to record a Tagore song in Bengali with Lata Mangeshkar.
Her first big beak was in the year 1978, when she sang the Kannada song "Ondanondu kaaladalli" in the film with the same name.
However, the turning point of her career was two popular songs "Hawa Hawaii" and "Karte Hain Hum Pyaar Mr. India Se" from the 1987 movie Mr. India. Since then, there has been no looking back for her.
