Mumbai, June 25: Anurag Kashyap, who directed a short film for "Bombay Talkies", wove together five short stories in "Shorts", which is coming out July 12. The filmmaker believes that short films are like a gateway to the bigger movies.




"It (short films) is not a trend, it's just an opportunity where different people are getting to showcase their work, which will then lead them onto a feature film," the 40-year-old said here Monday at the first look launch of "Shorts".

Five different directors helmed five short stories for "Shorts", which has already wowed movie connoisseurs in the global arena and Kashyap added: "They are very good short films, they have won awards internationally in the last two years."

Neeraj Ghaywan, Shlok Sharma, Siddharth Gupta, Anirban Roy and Rohit Pandey have contributed to "Shorts. Richa Chadda, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Murari Kumar besides some new faces star in the five films' cast.

Meanwhile, Kashyap also revealed that filmmaker Karan Johar, who makes his acting debut in his directorial "Bombay Velvet", has lost a lot of weight for the film.

"The shoot starts next month. Karan has already lost 10 out of the mentioned 12 kg. He is on a weight-loss spree as he was already losing weight before we took him for the film. He is still losing weight," Kashyap said.

"Bombay Velvet" stars Karan as a villain, while Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma play the main leads.
