For those who aren't aware about this festival, Karva Chauth, it is an annual one-day festival celebrated by Hindu and some Sikh women in North India and parts of Pakistan in which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and prolonged existence of their husbands.
Once the moon is visible, it is mandatory for a fasting woman to view its reflection in a vessel filled with water, through a riddle. And even Bollywood is not behind in increasing the popularity of this festival.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
This movie is an all time favourite and so is the Karwa Chauth scene in it. Who can forget the ‘Nakhre wali' Simran played by Kajol who fasts while Raj played by SRK does the same secretly. Kajol's act to pretend that she is fainting so that Raj could feed her was the best.
The flick even has the lovely traditional song ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi' when all the women come together with diyas and there's a beautiful reflection of the moon in the water scene was shot so beautifully. The movie made girls all over the country fall in love with the very idea of fasting for love.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Sanjay Leela Bhansali made the couple's (Aishwariya and Salman) love so real that the two actually fell for each other while shooting for the flick. Aish in the scene fasts for her lover Salman while it is broken by her husband Ajay Devgn.
Ishq Vishq
Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor shared the most gorgeous Karva Chauth scene. The way Amrita expresses her love for Shahid in a heart wrenching scene while celebrating Karwa Chauth was great.
With her beautiful modern day love saga, Amrita totally made new age girls revisit tradition, fasting and other things which are so important to our culture.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Karan Johar movies are really good when it comes to celebrations. And the Karva Chauth scene in the movie with Hrithik-Kareena Kapoor just made Karva Chauth the most fashionable thing to do. It was again, Kajol-SRK who rocked the Karva Chauth song with their lovable chemistry.
The ‘Bole Chudiya' song had everything including mehendi, Karwa Chauth celebration with good dance steps to make us all watch it in joy.
Baghban
The most romantic Jodi in that year of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini was unforgettable. The Karwa Chauth scene where the two are apart and Hema, while in conversation with Big B on telephone, tries to break her fast. The scene leaves a lump in one's throat when Big B makes Hema realize that he has numerous cuisines to have, while in reality it wasn't so.
Right from the North where the tradition for fasting for husbands originally began, to becoming a modern day trend among married and unmarried women, Bollywood has played a vital role in adding beauty to such occasions.
