New Delhi, Sep 16: Models are beautiful, and they can act, says Esha Gupta, who believes that the transition of a model from the ramp to celluloid is often successful because the audiences like to watch beautiful faces on screen.
"Look at Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif... they are one of the best actresses we have these days, and they all used to be models.
The bottomline is that everyone wants to just see beauty and models are beautiful," Esha told IANS.
"At the end of the day, you need to be presentable, because the janata wants to see a beautiful girl on screen, who they can go home and imagine about. That's how it works around the world.
"When I saw Bipasha Basu coming out of the water in 'Jism', wearing that white outfit,
I being a girl drooled on it. I imagined what I'd look like in that scene. Everyone wants to see beauty.
It's just that models are good looking, and we get a chance, we are well aware of the industry, focus well, do our acting course and enter the industry," added the 26-year-old.
The 26-year-old, a former Miss India contestant and Kingfisher Calendar girl, got her Bollywood launch pad with Mahesh Bhatt's "Jannat 2".
When it comes to fame, she compares her spirit to that of a sportsman.
"If you ask a sportsman, they never strive for fame. They go for it and prove themselves because they love what they are doing. And that's just what happened with me. I always loved what I was doing and I knew I was getting better with it," she said.
Acting is exciting for her.
"After a point, I did every magazine cover, every designer shoot, and walked for every designer. What was beyond that? Move to Mumbai! So I did that. Then did Kingfisher, then what... films! So I like this excitement," she said.
"The best thing about being an actor is that you always get to do something new, and meet new people," she added.
She made her debut in May this year, and her second film, "Raaz 3" has already hit the marquee. Esha is happy with her changed life.
"It (acting) is a completely different field... as a model when you are walking on the ramp, you are not meeting and interacting with people," she said adding that while doing promotions of films, "there are about 7,000 to 8,000 people wherever we go. So imagine being on stage and addressing them, and all of them want you to talk to them."
"When you're on the ramp, we are ourselves and showcasing shoes, clothes, and representing products - but when you're an actor, you're never the same person. I am never Esha Gupta. I am always some character," she said.
Esha has also shot her third film, Prakash Jha's "Chakravyuh" -- and as one expects, the movie will present her in a "completely different look", the actress confirms.
