New Delhi: Rajinikanth's Lingaa, also the Tollywood ticket for Sonakshi Sinha managed to score well in the regional theatres and multiplexes but didn't stand even a bare minimum chance outside the local territory. It is said that the delay in its release is the reason of loss.
As per reports, the date of release was extended to two weeks after it hit in Tamil and Telugu versions on Rajinikanth's birthday - December 12.
Compared to Rajinikanth's earlier movies, Lingaa's condition is critical. The 2007 release ‘Shivaji' was a game changer at box office earning Rs 24 cr net with around 600 screens in India which was huge in that period of time.
After three years, the bar was expected to rise. Robot, also starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, in 2010, collected over Rs 11.30 cr net in one week with its Hindi version alone. With its lifetime collection of over Rs 180 cr, the movie gave Shah Rukh Khan's ‘My Name is Khan' and Salman Khan's ‘Dabangg' a run for money.
Such was the verve, that a special train was deployed to make viewers reach theatres to watch the movie.
But Rajinikanth's starry aura seems to be getting dull now. The reason for Lingaa's not so good response found was also the critical remark, which didn't work in favour of the flick. The movie was out an out a Rajinikanth movie, which was hence refrained from any sensible treatment. Thinking that superstar's flick will automatically garner TRPs, it actually fell flat.
According to a leading daily, over Rs 120 cr was made by the movie in its first week which is less considering Rajini's stature.
The similar picture was drawn for Rajinikanth's this year's earlier release ‘Kochadaiyaan'.
Same was the eagerness among his fans. The first photogenic picture's concept was new, but it created the required curiosity. No matter how much newly invented technology was kept in accentuation to sell the movie but the end result was nothing but a poor dummy presentation of the superstar.
His directors mostly have cliché ideas of filmmaking and they don't go beyond a certain limit. We have Rajini maintaining his same classic style in all his films, which may work for his die hard fans but not for those who look out for logics. The Rajini's tag is stapled throughout his films to paint the blemishes.
To overcome that in his forthcoming flicks we wish directors may show a little respect to writing of Rajini's character and of course the script, which shouldn't be barred by any formulaic treatment.
Moreover, there is a strong need for the actor to move on from being what he pretends to be in his movies. Bollywood's megastar Amitabh Bachchan is one good example of what character one should choose for himself in a movie.
It would be beneficial for the 64 year old Rajini to not to be typecasted while choosing his projects. However, he is praised for his action style but now its time to go beyond that. Opting roles suitable to his age would give him a needful different identity as those flicks might find a new section of audience.
Well, Rajini's stardom could never fade but undeniably now its time for him to bring necessary changes in his projections, which brings better results at box office.
